Primary Responsibilities

The following are specific responsibilities of the Senior Accountant on an engagement:

  • Assign fieldwork to staff members on the basis of their knowledge and capabilities when in-charging a job.
  • Support the training of staff members, offer guidance and direction, and provide constructive criticism of working papers.
  • Field questions to the client, and help interpret client answers.
  • Study and evaluate internal controls used by the client, and review and update the standard audit program for client specific procedures.
  • Evaluate work papers and determine whether the engagement was performed in accordance with generally accepted standards.
  • Assure that all necessary accounts have been analyzed, and that all issues have been addressed.
  • Review with the manager or partner any significant findings or issues regarding audit engagement.
  • After discussion with Partner, communicate management letter items or issues to client at the end of the job, prior to issuance of management letter.
  • After discussion with Partner, determine who should complete the write-up of the financial statements and tax return. Assist with and review financials and work papers prepared by staff members.
  • Review adequacy of financial statement disclosures.
  • Communicate with manager or Partner the timing of the audit engagement, and monitor progress to assure timely completion. Communicate any issues regarding timely completion with the manager or partner.
  • Suggest client tax planning ideas to supervisor, manager, or partner.
  • Prepare routine correspondence to the client and/or government for the approval and signature of a partner or manager.
  • Set up books or account for new business.

 

Minimum Requirements

Minimum of 3 years public accounting Audit experience and a CPA certificate; or, working towards a CPA certificate. Ability to effectively communicate with clients and begin to develop leads and networking skills for future client development. This position requires the proven success with handling fieldwork with minimal supervision and delegating work to team members as the leader on selected engagements.
